Steady Striders: Sacramento
Gentle, Sacramento area, co-ed walks for people getting back into movement
If you’ve been meaning to move more, get outside, or rebuild your mobility without pressure, performance, or awkwardness… this is for you.
Steady Striders of Sacramento is a welcoming, low-pressure walking group for people who have been through something, a heart event, surgery, illness, injury, stress, burnout, grief, or any chapter that slowed you down, and are ready to gently return to movement and confidence.
Many of us are 50+, but the group is open to anyone who can comfortably do a 1–2 mile gentle walk and wants a calm, supportive pace.
What to expect
No judgment. No pressure.
This is a practice group. We’re here to rebuild steadily, not prove anything.
Positive peer support
It’s easier to keep moving when you’re around people who get it.
A calm start (20 minutes)
We begin with 20 minutes of mindfulness, gentle stretching, or both to help you settle in and warm up. This will be from 9:40-10:00 am.
Then we walk (about 2 miles, gentle pace)
Easy, conversational pace. Breaks as needed. The goal is consistency, not intensity.
Shady routes when possible
Because Sacramento heat is real, and we’re not here to suffer for a hobby. We choose parks with some shade.
Respectful, conflict-free vibe
We keep conversation light and supportive, no politics or religion debates.
People-first walks
We love dogs. Truly. But for this particular group, we keep it human-only. Some members are rebuilding strength, balance, or confidence, and a calm, predictable walking environment matters. Thanks for understanding and helping us keep the vibe steady and focused.
Important timing note
There’s a 5-minute arrival window at the beginning, and then we’re already on the move, at 10:05 am.
Schedule
4th Saturday of every month
10:00 am – 11:00 am
Exact meet-up location details are emailed a few days before each walk.
Why a walking group helps
Research on outdoor walking groups shows measurable health benefits beyond “just getting steps,” including lower blood pressure (about 3.7 mm Hg lower systolic and 3.1 mm Hg lower diastolic on average in a meta-analysis), plus improvements in physical functioning and walking capacity.
How announcements work
I send simple walk announcements a few days before each walk with the exact location, parking notes, and anything you need to know.
Note: This group is a supportive community movement practice, not medical care. Please participate in alignment with your personal health guidance.
You’re also invited to join the Steady Striders Facebook page if you’d like to connect with others in the group.
